Book Recommendation: Counterfeit Gods

Normally, I reserve my book writing to short reviews, but for the sake of Tim Keller’s Counterfeit Gods I have chosen instead to refer to this very short article as a recommendation.  This may be the most important book written for the church this year. I was convicted and challenged.

Keller has drawn from some academic works on idolatry (Such as We Become What We Worship by G.K. Beale) that have identified idolatry as the predominate sin throughout the Bible and has written a book for the church with heavy influences from biblical theology that aptly critiques our culture and glorifies the one true God of the universe.

Concerning the power of idolatry, Keller writes:

Rather than accept our finitude and dependence on God, we desperately seek ways to assure ourselves that we still have power over our own lives.

What an apt summary of the human condition.

There is a website for Counterfeit Gods here.

Tim Challies has provided a much more in-depth review at his site here.
